On September 4 we boarded Sky Express headed to Istanbul. In 2005, on our first adventure to Greece, we crossed over into Turkey to see the ancient ruins of Ephesus. We got a feel for this country, but never felt at home, So, this will be another stretch for us as we delved into the vibrant city of Istanbul.
Our first impression was that the airport was Very spacious and not very busy. We had arranged for a taxi with our hotel so someone was there to greet us. It was quite a drive and we were both glad Rich wasn't driving with all the twists and turns and small old town roads.
We are staying at the Celine Hotel. It's a classic old hotel in the heart of where we want to be so we can walk everywhere.
Since we didn't have breakfast, we stopped at a bakery. YUM! Huge croissant with cream and strawberries.
We arrived around noon so had plenty of time to sightsee. After settling in, we walked to the Blue Mosque and around the area. Our pictures do not do it justice so you can see more about it at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Mosque,_Istanbul
We are glad we took this side trip, but in reality, we will be glad to get back to Greece where we will rent a car at the airport and head to the Peloponnese on the 6th.
