White Inland Village (plus Smurf Village). Last night (June 2) we found a quaint little bed and breakfast in the White Inland Village of Cartajima. We drove uphill on the winding streets wondering if we would be able to make the bends. But we made it. We had to ring the doorbell (which was behind the bush to let them know we were here. Our host (and his 4 year old son) answered with a German Brogue. We later found out that he had worked for the EU. He had retired early to buy this place in the mountains. His wife is still in the Germany Parliament so was not here at the time.
We were shown into a very unique private room with an outside entrance. It's hard to describe but I will post some picture that we took as we walked around. We were all alone and never saw another person. They have an interesting way of mural painting.
Today, June 3, our host had a breakfast for us and then we drove through mountains to the "Blue Town" of Juzcar. It's all painted blue because this is where they filmed the Smurf movie in 2011. They still have some remnants of mushrooms and Smurf paintings
Then we drove to the ancient city of Ronda. It's another ancient Morrish city in the White Inland Villages. It was one of the last cities to be conquered by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella in 1485. During the Spanish Civil War of 1936-39 Ronda was also a place where Right Wing Nationalist and Left wing socialists and communists committed atrocities. The Left hated religion and destroyed many churches and christians. The right under Franco, after winning the war and setting up a dictatorship killed 10's of thousands, many where thrown off the bridge in Ronda. You can learn more by watching the video I posted in the last blog, and by watching Rich Steves visit to the city of Ronda linked below.
